Henderika Boer family

My grandmother, the grandmother I was named after. Henderika family. Our call signs differ. Because my mother didn't think the nickname "Geesje" suited the big city, it became Gina. Beautiful memories of her apron, her scraped pewter spoon. Throwing the leftover hot lunch through the top window. The black floor in the long kitchen with a pump as a tap. The toilet in the hallway in the evening, the cupboard with rusks (we didn't get them at home), picking the strawberries in the garden. The large barn full of wood. Preserving the vegetables, playing outside, the local shop with old-fashioned copper scales and paper cones.

In 1811, the Netherlands started drawing Land Registry maps on the orders of King Louis Napoleon, brother of Napoleon Bonaparte. The aim was to introduce a national land tax system (now known as real estate tax).

In 1832, the entire Netherlands was mapped and the tax system came into effect.

Harm owned land in 1832. The designated piece and the two pieces in front of it. The front part, the red one, has a house function. This is located on the Wolden. My grandmother Gezina Henderika Boer was born in a house on the Wolden. Later my uncle Jan, her youngest son, built his house on this spot together with his father. This piece of land has certainly been in the possession of the Boer family for more than 200 years.

Harm is a Rifleman at the Drentse Mobile Schutterij, in service 11-1830 from service 9-1834, weapon number 22.

Volkstelling 1860-1880. Harm woont no. 319. En hij is Nederduits Hervormd

He lives there with Pietertien Nijboer, son Warner, daughter Geessien and stepdaughter Geessien Koops.

Warner staat als zijnde geboren 25-8-1843, akte zegt 22-8-1842

Harm is called Harm Waanders Boer in the population register Anloo 1880-1900.

He lives in District A no. 375.

Harm is Nederlands Hervormd.

He lives at this address with stepdaughter Geesje Koops, daughter Geesje Boer, his 12th child and only child with Pietertje and grandson Harm, illegitimately born son of Geessien, born 17-4-1880. Land Registry Wolden 25 I have my grandfather and his son in the houses see building. This plot therefore appears to have been in the possession of the Boer family for a long time. After construction in 1966, my uncle, Jan Niemeijer, moved to one of the houses. Harm lives (the names over the 2 centuries) Wolden 25, Section H, 133, C200, A 5401823 Harm, born 14-4-1800

Poorfather: Before 1911 there were no regulations for the care of the elderly. Neighbors and families helped each other. The well-known Drenthe “Naobermand”. The church took care of the orphans and family members, but that too was not always self-evident as the Naober duty. The first workhouses for the poor were founded at the end of the 1830s. This happened in Emmen in 1851. Willem Boer was the first pauper of Emmen.

The building stood on the southern side of the later Kapelstraat in the Marke of Noord- and Zuidbarge. A long building with many windows. At the rear there were three stable doors behind which the cattle were housed. In 1852 a separate sheepfold was added.

The workhouse was managed by the pastor, the deacon and members of the church appointed by the church council.

The daily management was in the hands of a “father of the poor” and “mother of the poor”, who received a small compensation for this. It was preferably a childless couple. Willem was a poor father from the beginning of 1851 until 1890, when he died.

The name Armenwerkhuis is not entirely correct. Those who still had possessions were also welcome, but upon admission they were obliged to hand over their possessions.

At the time of their marriage, Jan and Egbertje live in Eext. They have to get married, their son Jan will be born within a month and a half.

Egbertje declares that he has forgotten the art of writing.

Striking: wedding witnesses 1 brother and three brothers-in-law of the bride. No known person of Jan Boer.
