Tinus van Wijk

Tinus van Wijk, here together with his best comrade Ko. Always up for a drink. Tinus lived in Paterswolde/Eelderwolde. His first big trip out of the village was straight to the Dutch East Indies. He was stationed there for almost 3 years. This journey has shaped Tinus for life. Found a friend for life. But also shaped for life in a way that we do not know. His second 'big trip' was to the big city of Amsterdam.

The generationsYou will have to be patient for the detailed story. My book consists of more than 600 pages which I do not want to share with just anyone. Hence the enumeration of the generations. I don't know yet whether I still want to "publish" the book. For now, the book only goes with my children. Additions: 20-12-2020 supplemented with some dates and brief information. 2-3-2022, the link from generation 5 to generation 6 has not yet been definitively proven. Do you have a lead, proof? I would love to hear from you. With thanks to the much information obtained from the Land Registry books of Anton C. Zeven.

Generatie V

1658 Bartholt van Wijck X Metjen Henricsen, On October 7, 1735, Bartelt van Wijck's wife with the large clock said is Metjen, I read: On the high day of Pinxteren, Metjen Hindricks was accepted after confession.

Metjen came to Wageningen with a certificate from The Hague in 1681. Bartholt owned houses in Wageningen at various times. In 1725 he owned a house with a city wall on the Nudepoort. This means that the house was built on the city wall and the city wall is therefore part of his home. He also later owned houses on Hooghstraat and Broeckstraat.

Children:

Henrick van Wijck has a foreson, Bartholt, with Metjen Henricsen. Henrick was never married after Henrick and Metjen got married. Generation VI

1703 Matthijs van Wijck Matthijs is still alive and coming along??? That still needs to be sorted out.

Matthijs and his children grew up in a Stadtholderless era (1702 -1747), the time when there was a struggle that was referred to as the Gelderland folding. The struggle between the protégés of William III (after the childless death of this harsh leader, no new stadtholder and more democratic denominations were elected outside Friesland and Groningen. In 1707 there were riots due to the appointment of regents, which led to an expedition of Arnhem corps coming to Wageningen The gates are shot at and Wageningen mayors are captured. There are floods in the Gelderland valley due to the breach of the Grebbedijk. In 1724-25, street lights appear on poles for the first time Wageningen jointly bought the Lexkesveer and the Grebbelinie was built. In 1755, a hailstorm destroyed most of the tobacco cultivation. Mr. Hovestad was officially appointed as a salmon fisherman on the Rhine and caught 143 salmon in 1777. , in 1781 only 1 and in 1782 there were 34. In 1795 the city was occupied by the French army. 1795-1813 Part of the city belongs to the Batavian Republic, the Kingdom of Holland and the French Empire. Civil rights lose their meaning. The craft guilds are dissolved.

Matthijs leaves for 's Hertogenbosch (garrison town and Doesburg, idem). Nowhere do I find evidence that Matthijs was in the army. Den Bosch was an important fortified town as a link between the north and south (French), but during his stay I did not find any signs of importance to be there.

He marries Peternella (Petronella/Peternel) van Rooijen. Petronella was baptized 9-2-1730 and buried 28-8-1781 in Wageningen. In 1765 Petronella purchased grave no. 196: Three stones is mentioned. Are these three graves? In 1781 the population was plagued with the “Red Loop” or dysentry. Petronella succumbs to this disease on 28-8-1781 this year. She is buried with the Great Bell. You paid X amount to the church and the big bells rang on the day you were buried. Jan (Johannes) was Poortier at the Nudepoort. A gatekeeper. This opened the doors and collected the gate money. Below is a photo to illustrate the era of the van Wijck family. In 1756, Jan buys a timbered house on the narrow Hooghstraat near the Nudepoort on a lease for 6 years for F 28.0.0. Her mother-in-law, Hiltje van Mans/Maanen, is at that time a porter at the Nudepoort and is the guarantor with her porter's contract. On 2-6-1760 they buy a house on the Kapelstraat, house, yard with cellar. carpentry.

This would have stood at the bottom of the house, as was customary at that time. Willem is also a Kuijper. He makes wooden tubs, barrels or barrels. It is an extinct craft. Willem was Reformed and a member of the Schutterij in 1815. This is followed by the names Arnolda van Rooijen, Arnolda Neulke, etc. This is very similar, Nolleke can be traced back to Arnolda. Van Rooijen was of course added 1811 Napoleon.

Dirk marries Nolleke Cornelisse or Arnolda van Roijen. Both are the same woman. Nolleke is also called: Arnolda Neulke/Naleke Corniess, Neleke Cornelisdr/Neulke Teunisse/Neulken. Zeven from the books “Who lived where in Wageningen”. It states that Dirk is called brother-in-law of Hendrick Koning. Hendrick Koning is married to Jantje Crift (Krift). Hendrik is a mason's servant. Is he a wealthy man by inheritance? From genealogiedomein.nl: – Hendricus (Hendrik) Koning: 10-3-1818: Death register municipality of Wageningen, 10-3-1818 No. 44. / On today, the Tenth of March of the year eighteen hundred and eighteen in the afternoon at eleven o'clock, Carel Anthony Marchant, Mayor of Wageningen, Province of Gelderland, Official of the Civil State, compared before us, Jan Ferdinant, aged fifty-two, speaker / and Hendrik Engelbart van Rennes, aged four and twenty, messenger of this City Council / both living in Wageningen / who have declared to us that Hendrik Koning Widower of Jannetje Krift, by profession Metzelaars Knegt born in Wageningen, Son of Wylen Frans Koning born in Grol and died in Wageningen and Berendina Brandsen born and died in Wageningen on the Eighth of March this year in the evening at seven o'clock at the age of eight and seventy years in the Mennonite Neighborhood of this city La B No 226 died. / From which We have drawn up this Act, which was signed after reading by the Appearing Parties and us. // [cc 1982-1999 tB]A large house is divided into two by a magescheid. Until 1974, the bakery was located at Kruisstraat 17 in Beilen. In 2008, old features can still be seen in the bakery. Willem's son, Hilbertus/Bertus Pots, married Roelfina Smits, who was immediately able to help in the bakery. There were no holidays, only after a holiday scheme for bakers was introduced in 1965 did they make up for the damage and travel throughout Europe. Bertus worked in his father's business together with a younger brother and some servants. Bertus also wanted to become a baker and, as the eldest son, took over the bakery. It was a tough job. Father Willem, her brother-in-law Willem and sister-in-law Grietje also lived in the house on Kruisstraat. Bertus' working day looked like this: to bed at 9:30 PM and up again at 4:00 AM. Bake with the servants and go out to peddle at 9:30. This happened with horse and cart in surrounding villages. The servants delivered the bread in Beilen and the women stood in the shop where they also sold smaller spices. There were 12 bakeries in the small village at the time, so you couldn't slack off on your work. Only on Sundays Hilbertus stayed in bed a little longer. The story of the Bakery and how it goes after son BertusG takes over the store is in my possession,

In 1926 the front house was renovated and enlarged. A new house is also being built on Vennersteeg, Vennerstraat 26, where his parents move into. More renovations took place in 1935, 1951 and 1954. The crisis years make it difficult, but fortunately the vegetable auction is moved from Café Braakzicht to Vennerstraat next to Café van Wijk. 8. Egberdina van Wijk

Generation XII

1889 Jan van Wijk Heise and Jeichien Kremer

Jacob and Jeichien get married 4 months before Klasina is born. Jacob and Jeichien lived in Amsterdam. They even got married there. Jacob came from Assen but lived with his mother in Amsterdam and Jeichien lived in Vries.

When she is declared in the population register, it is by Lucas Heise from 2de Nassaustraat 13 and Johan Christoph Heise, a letter typesetter by profession, also from 2de Nassaustraat 13. Lucas is Klasina's grandfather and Johan Christoph her uncle, brother of her father Jacob. I've always wondered why they went to Amsterdam. Of course you think of economic reasons. However, see above, relatives of Jacob HH also lived there

Heise in Amsterdam, father Lucas and brother Johan Christoph. But a sister of Klasina's mother also lived in Amsterdam. Enough to take your chances within the family, which were often also tailors.

Klasina grew up in Amsterdam for one year and seven months. Her father came to Amsterdam first. On 25-1-1892 Jacob first registered with his brother Johan Christoph and on 15-11-1893 Jacob registered on the Rozengracht with widow CB Heman, a week before he registered with his wife on 21-11-1893. Jeichien is located in Hazenstraat, a street between Elandsgracht and Lauriersgracht. On December 19, 1893 they moved to Da Costastraat. This street is located between Kinkerstraat and Jacob van Lennepstraat. On June 7, 1894, the couple moved to 2de Nassaustraat no. 5 and on October 15, 1894 to 2de Nassaustraat no. 23. This street is located between da Nassaukade and Wittenkade. On October 15, 1895, the couple left for Haren (Glimmen) with Hendrik and the now born Klasina. Hendrik, brother of Jeichien, has been living with them for the last 5 months. He is a tailor just like Jacob.

The story goes (via eldest daughter Mina or youngest son Piet) that Jeichien Kremer died on the train on the way to Amsterdam. No evidence of this has yet been found. In 1922 she is registered as deceased in Amsterdam. Klasina wanted her daughter Mina to become a hairdresser. It's funny that her brother Pieter is a hairdresser and ran a barbershop next to his father's catering establishment.
