I walk along in their lives for a bit, I understand them more and more. My hobby, my passion!

Who am I?

This question has prompted me to do a major search.

My search for the puzzle pieces of my 'being' starts with: "who are my parents?"

Who are these people who have such a big influence on who I am?

This quest gives me a lot. I experience that I am taking a step into the lives of my ancestors. The dates, stories, spirit of the times, information from various documents, news reports and history draw me into their world.

An approach to the essence of my parents' lives.

The imprint of my 'being' from previous generations.

Empathy and respect for these previous generations and many, many stories from their lives.

It makes me feel like I'm part of my ancestors. My TREE.

About me

After a bad time and not knowing who my father was (at the time), I started looking for my 'being'.

A beautiful journey with beautiful and sad stories and interesting insights. My search has been answered and provides a lot of understanding for 'being' my parents. This beautiful hobby started with this search. Now, more than 20 years later, Genealogical research fills many of my free hours. I also enjoy traveling through Canada and especially America, listening to podcasts, music, doing puzzles without an example and writing. I now have some short stories on my shelf and also a teenage and a Sinterklaas book.

If I come across an interesting training or education, I will also fill my time with that. To keep my brain busy, I took Spanish, Business Psychology and NLP training for almost 3 years. I started learning Norwegian in August 2023. I also try to make time for volunteer work, reading and digitizing old deeds.

My hobby, family tree research, has grown into a true passion and has already resulted in several assignments, including helping with the search for a mother, making family trees and designing stories.

I am not a specialist but an amateur with passion. A puzzler. I know how to find many archives and get stuck into the matter. That is my strength.

My work, my many hobbies and looking after the grandchildren make for a well-filled day.

February 2020 the start of 'Ginalogy'.

My DNA

Who am I based on my DNA? Nowadays you can take your DNA at home and have it tested by a lab. You will then receive an estimate regarding your ethnicity. I did not expect any special features from the German descendant from multiple branches. What surprises me is that these German ancestors are not dominant in terms of genes. I am very surprised when only English 78.2%, Scandinavian 15.4% and Finnish 5% DNA is found. 1.4% are Nigerian?!?! Revised DNA 18-11-2023English 79.4%Scandinavian 15.6% and Finnish 5% The expected German DNA has been passed on to my eldest brother. English 48.7%, Scandinavian 25.8% and North-West European 25.5% (German part). My daughter takes the cake with the English DNA, 83.2%. Also Finnish DNA 3.9%, the rest North-West European.

From my DNA overview I can draw the conclusion that both my father and mother have English ancestors since I have 78.2% British DNA in my body and limbs. But did you know that: - Europeans are a mix of ancient bloodlines from Africa, Central Africa and the Russian Steppe - Vikings were not always blond - Vikings came from the Eurasian steppe More articles and studies appear every month. It never ends.

I am currently researching Gheryt van Wijck, the Englishman from the 16th century in Wageningen. Possibly from the Isle of Wight.
